Dizziness and Vertigo Treatment in Winnipeg

Experiencing dizziness, spinning sensations, or balance problems? Vertigo and dizziness can be frightening and disruptive to your daily life. Arora Family Chiropractic provides effective treatment for various types of dizziness and vestibular disorders.

Understanding Dizziness and Vertigo

Dizziness is a general term for feeling lightheaded or unsteady. Vertigo specifically refers to a spinning sensation—feeling like you or the room is moving when you’re actually still. Common symptoms include spinning sensation (true vertigo), feeling off-balance or unsteady, lightheadedness, nausea, difficulty focusing vision, and sensitivity to head movements.

These symptoms can result from inner ear problems, neck issues, or neurological conditions.

Types of Vertigo We Treat

The most common type of vertigo is Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), caused by tiny crystals in your inner ear becoming displaced. We also treat cervicogenic dizziness caused by neck problems, post-concussion dizziness, and dizziness related to vestibular dysfunction.

Cervicogenic dizziness is particularly responsive to chiropractic care because it stems from neck misalignments affecting balance centers.

The Neck-Dizziness Connection

Many people don’t realize that neck problems can cause dizziness. Your cervical spine contains important proprioceptors (position sensors) that tell your brain where your head is in space. When vertebrae are misaligned or muscles are tense, these sensors send incorrect signals, leading to dizziness and balance problems.

Upper cervical misalignments can also affect blood flow to the brain and irritate nerves that affect balance.

Our Treatment Approach

Treatment depends on the type and cause of your dizziness. For BPPV, we use specialized repositioning maneuvers (Epley maneuver) to move displaced crystals back into place. For cervicogenic dizziness, we provide gentle upper cervical adjustments, soft tissue therapy for neck muscles, and vestibular rehabilitation exercises.

Many patients experience significant improvement or complete resolution of symptoms within a few treatments.

Vestibular Rehabilitation

For more complex vestibular issues, we provide rehabilitation exercises designed to retrain your balance system, improve gaze stability, reduce sensitivity to movement, and enhance overall balance and coordination.

These exercises are customized to your specific condition and gradually progress as you improve.
