What is Shockwave Therapy?
Shockwave therapy is a treatment we use in our clinic that utilizes spurts of highly pressured acoustic (sound) waves to deliver a powerful force to painful areas of the body. It is based on shockwave technology that was used to break down kidney stones decades ago.
How Does the Treatment Work?
We use a non-invasive hand held instrument (see picture above), applied directly to the skin to administer the treatment. We usually apply gel to the area first to allow the instrument to glide easier over the skin. An acoustic pressure from the machine will then create an energy wave and create impulses in the applicator, which are then targeted toward the painful area. The process is relatively quick, taking only 10 minutes per session.
The treatment will break down scar tissue and stimulate blood flow to the injured area, which initiates healing.
How Does the Treatment Feel?
The intensity of the treatment is different for each injury and each individual. You should be able to feel the treatment, but contrary to the “scary” name, you will never feel pain, or an actual “shock”. You simply feel a tapping on the skin!
What Conditions Do We Treat?
This is where Shockwave Therapy thrives. We get AMAZING results with this treatment. In fact, we can confidently say we have an 80-90% success rate in relieving with the below areas.
⦿ Plantar Fascitis
⦿ Heel Spurs
⦿ Achilles Tendonitis
⦿ Tennis elbow
⦿ Frozen shoulder
⦿ Golfers elbow
⦿ Jumper’s Knee
⦿ Shin Splints
⦿ Scar Tissue treatment
⦿ Hip Bursitis
How do you get started?
During your (free) consultation, Dr. Arora or Dr. Cook would assess your injury to see if you are a candidate for treatment. If you are a good candidate, we would then advise a treatment plan which consists of 3 to 6 sessions. Each session is only $65 (two body parts are discounted at $95, and three body parts at $125).
At this point, either Dr. Arora or Dr. Cook will administer the treatment. If you prefer one of our Athletic Therapists or Physiotherapist to administer the treatment due to insurance or any other reason, we can do that as well.
To answer that final question then, yes! Insurance does cover this treatment.
So if you’d like to book, give us a call, or book online. When booking online, be sure to choose the “Shockwave Consultation – Complimentary” option with Dr. Arora or Dr. Cook. We will try our best to help you 🙂
Yours in health, Arora Family Chiropractic Team.
