With all this snow in Winnipeg, have you been injured in a car accident?

We all know the snow can create havoc for us on the roads.

Somehow, we all “forget” how to drive in the winter, even if just a little bit.

An innocent slam on the breaks can easily turn into a collision.

And before you know it, you get a stiff neck or back, headaches, maybe even numbness in your hands.

Or dizziness. Shock. Feeling of anxiety. For some it will even trigger depression or sadness.

Sometimes this will happen immediately.

Sometimes you may not notice anything for weeks.

Studies show even the slowest rear-end collision (think 20 km/hr),

Can cause a whiplash injury.

If this has happened to you recently, keep these things in mind…

First, seek help. If paramedics were on site, they would have assessed you.

You may have gone to the hospital as well.

You would likely have received the best care you could receive.

Going forward, here are the things you can do…

First and foremost, make sure you are using the R.I.C.E method.

R – rest

I – ice the area of pain

C – compression (if swelling is on a joint)

E – elevation (if possible)

If you need, don’t be afraid to take an anti-inflammatory.

Then, seek help again.

Chiropractic, physiotherapy, athletic therapy…

All these treatments can help your recover optimally.

If you came in to see one of us,

We would assess you, and submit the paperwork to MPI.

And get you on the road to care.

If you need to take time off work.

We will help with return to work recommendations,

And correspond with MPI.

Bottom line, do not stay on your own island.

Injuries from motor vehicle accidents are notorious for having lingering effects years down the road.

So please take it seriously.

If you have any questions,

Feel free to contact us.

And above all, drive safe.
